"This is truly a beautiful partnership between our tenants, neighbors, the State of Hawai`i, the private sector, the City & County of Honolulu, service providers and many stakeholders that will result in much needed mixed-income, mixed-use rentals."
- Hakim Ouansafi, Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) Executive Director
Mayor Wright Homes is a federal low-income public housing development that has been in use for more than 60 years. It was built in 1953 and modernized in 1984. With inadequate state and federal funds available to address its capital needs, the mixed-income, mixed-finance, mixed- use model will provide the additional capital necessary to truly revitalize the site and surrounding neighborhood.
"Our priority as master developer is ensuring that the new redevelopment of Mayor Wright Homes will be a community that not only meets the needs of current residents, the most important stakeholders to the entire redevelopment, but will also create additional affordable/workforce housing for urban Honolulu.” stated Steve Colón, President of Hunt’s Hawaii division.
The HPHA is the sole Statewide public housing agency in the State of Hawai`i, providing a variety of affordable housing to low-income families. The agency administers approximately 6200 federal and state low-income public housing units on five islands, and over 2,200 rental assistance vouchers and 3000 PBCA units.
